The production, distribution, storage and intelligent management of energy remains to be one of the most important and fundamental global challenges. To produce more and more in order to satisfy increasing needs and to do so in a more sustainable way and manage resources without wasting are inevitable objectives. But the increasing needs correspond proportionally to a growth of technologies necessary to obtain important results: for example a better use of renewable resources requires constant research on the efficiency of materials, flow management, expertise in preserving and distributing this energy in a “smart” way. Great strides have been made thanks to the use of nanotechnologies but every achievement in this field is a new starting point towards higher performances.
For sure technologies and, specifically, nanotechnologies will have to keep on working on modern systems of energy production using renewable sources like the sun, wind and sea. Moreover, further research is to be carried out on the efficiency of energy supplies and the intelligent use in homes, firms and public buildings aiming at energy saving, constant power flow and best equipment performance. Not to be neglected are the solutions connected with the re-use of water coming from waste or industrial plants, the usage for energy purposes or the possibility of treatments which make it once again suitable for human consumption have double importance: a sustainable usage of our planet’s resources and an eco-friendly return to the environment.
