Meet in Italy for Life Sciences 2019 will be held in Trieste from 16-18 October, at Magazzino Molo IV.

Link: https://meetinitalylifesciences.eu/

Meet in Italy for Life Sciences is the leading national matchmaking and update event on Life Sciences

Health-related innovations are among the key elements that influence the progress of mankind, the environment in which we live, and our wellbeing. Speaking about health, therefore, does not mean simply speaking about investments and costs, but rather about an absolute value that sees in technological innovation and scientific research the fundamental elements of growth. The Sicily and Micronano Systems Technology District will contribute to the event with two workshops: one, focused on Micro and Nanotechnologies for next generation device in biosensors and innovative therapeutic approaches, the other, focused on New technologies for regenerative medicine and integrated physiological sensors in automotive applications.

Workshop organized by Sicilian Technological Cluster of Micro and Nano Systems

4 pm – 5:30 pm  – Workshop – Micro and Nanotechnologies for next generation device in biosensors and innovative therapeutic approaches

Application of nanotechnology to medical science has been emerging as a new interdisciplinary and cutting-edge area of biomedical research. It involves the development of novel engineered nanomaterials expected to have a relevant impact on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of several diseases. Over the last decade, many efforts have been devoted to the development of both new molecular nano-biosensor technologies and nano architectures to release bioactive compounds for therapeutic purposes. This Workshop will present innovative results obtained in Biosensors and therapeutic Approaches using the micro and nanotechnologies.

5:30 pm – 7 pm – Workshop – New technologies for regenerative medicine and integrated physiological sensors in automotive applications

Biomaterials for implants and regenerative medicine is one of the most fascinating research fields where the most challenge goal is to develop smart nanomaterials to trigger the regenerative powers of our bodies to restore diseased tissue and organs and/or prevent degeneration.
Physiological sensors are the new frontier in automotive technologies for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and current research aims to develop innovative micro-technologies to monitor in real-time the driver’s psycho-physiological and drowsiness.
In this workshop, we will present a survey on the most innovative approaches in bone tissue regeneration and Physiological sensors for driver drowsiness control.

Innovative Micro and Nanotechnologies for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

Chair: Sabrina CONOCI, STMicroelectronics
In collaboration with: STMicroelectronics & Distretto Tecnologico Sicilia Micro e Nano Sistemi

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) is the new frontier of automotive technologies. In this context, the current research aims to develop nanomaterials and innovative technologies to assist the driver during the driving. This goal is pursued through multifunctional approaches based on the development and integration of innovative sensors able to monitoring multiple parameters involving key aspects for the driver. These mainly includes: (a) the driver’s psycho-physiological status through the real time control of its drowsiness (the heart rate and its variability) and its sobriety level; (b) the driver’s environment through the monitoring of air quality of the passenger compartment. In this Workshop a survey of the most innovative approaches for ADASs will be presented.

WInSiC4AP – A European project to compete in the SiC global market

Chair: Leoluca LIGGIO, Distretto Tecnologico Sicilia Micro e Nano Sistemi
In collaboration with: STMicroelectronics & Distretto Tecnologico Sicilia Micro e Nano Sistemi

WInSiC4AP core objective is to contribute in developing reliable technology bricks for efficient and cost-effective applications addressing social challenges and market segments where Europe is a recognized global leader as well as automotive, avionics, railway and defence. This workshop aims to demonstrate the powerful of SiC for those sectors, through an innovative research approach developed in the project, that will permit to overcome the “state of the art” of the available components as expected from the results by the end of the project.

The 10th edition of the  Forum della Borsa della Ricerca  was held from May 28th to 30th in Salerno, within the Campus of the University of Salerno, partner of the event. More than 250 delegates attended the 3 days, representing 65 companies.

The first day was dedicated to the opening plenary session: “From research to entrepreneurship”. Thanks to the interventions of the speakers involved, evidence was given of the importance of the contribution of researchers to business creation.
The second day focused on one-to-one meetings between groups, research doctors or spin-offs and R&D managers of the participating companies. As part of the meetings, particular attention was reserved by the   Distretto Tecnologico Sicilia Micro e Nano Sistemi   to the WInSiC4UP project, which received considerable interest from most of the participating companies. The third day saw the organization of the pitch session. More than 50 companies from all over Italy – spinoffs, research groups and startups – have presented their business idea to investors and companies.

At the end of the pitch day, the BdR Awards were presented by Amadori, Meta Group, SellaLab, Microcredito Italiano and G-Factor (Fondazione Golinelli), awards from the Research Scholarship designed to concretely support the participating realities and transform ideas into projects innovative.

The WInSiC4AP project is one of the fi rst examples of the technical and scientific integration of two financial  mechanisms, one is European (funds from the ECSEL JU programme) and the other all-Italian FESR funds from the Italian Ministry of Education and Universities: this characteristic explains how the project can count on such important funding – to cover part of the about 30 million euro of the research costs – , and the many projects partners involved – (twenty in total covering four different Countries, and coordinated by the Sicilian Microand Nano Systems Technological District).
